The Carnegie Art Center provides a multi-disciplinary art education programming which includes creative movement and classical ballet classes as well as visual arts classes covering a variety of media such as drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media and printmaking.
SPRING 2009
Classical ballet instruction is for students ages 3-17 years. Classes are developed for kids with beginner to advanced dance skills and are taught by professional dancer/choreographer Bonnie Taylor.
All classes are on Tuesdays after school and early evening from January 6th through June 9th. Please note there will be no class on February 17th and April 14th.
Fees for ballet classes range from $40-$90 per class for Carnegie Family Members and $70-$120 per class for non-members.
Family Membership is $35 per year. Families can enjoy discounts on all of our Children's Art Education programs for the full year.
All tuition and membership fees are due in full on or before the first day of class or at the time of registration, whichever comes first. No refunds after classes begin.

Creative Movement
Class 1 - Tuesdays, 3:30-4:00pm
Class 2 - Tuesdays, 4:00-4:30pm
Student Ages: 3-4 years
Fee: $40 Family Members / $70 non-members
Allows the very young child to explore fundamental dance concepts and to experience the joy of creative expression through movement. Class size limited to 8 students.
Pre-Ballet Class 1 - Tuesdays, 4:30-5:15pm
Class 2 - Tuesdays, 5:15-6:00pm
Student Ages: 5-7
Fee: $40 Family Members / $70 non-members
Presents the most basic elements of classical ballet to the child while at the same time encouraging his/her freedom of kinetic expression. Class size limited to 10 students.
Basic Ballet I
Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00pm
Student Ages: 8+ or by permission of instructor
Fee: $75 Family Members / $105 non-members
Begins a solid foundation in classical ballet with emphasis on proper alignment and execution of steps. A class for beginners up to third year students.
Basic Ballet I & II
Tuesdays, 6:00-7:15pm
Student Ages: by permission of instructor only
Fee: $90 Family Members / $120 non-members
Begins a solid foundation in classical ballet with emphasis on proper alignment and execution of steps, plus some advanced work in preparation for Elementary Ballet. A class for beginners up to third+ year students.
Elementary Ballet
Tuesdays, 7:15-8:15pm
Student Ages: 8+: 3 years previous training or by permission of instructor.
Fee: $75 Family Members / $105 non-members
Builds on and solidifies the technical foundation begun in Basic Ballet. Also addresses artistic quality of movement.

VISUAL ARTS WORKSHOP Fun with Acrylics!
Wednesday, February 18th
1pm - 3pm Join us for a special workshop to explore many different techniques.
We will mix up colors and try different ways to create with acrylic paints.
$20 for the first child / $10 each additional child from the same family
For children ages 6-11 years old. All materials provided.

SPRING 2009
Visual Art instruction is designed to encourage imagination while teaching basic art concepts. Students are introduced to a variety of art materials in a relaxed classroom atmosphere. All activities are planned to develop skills and increase art knowledge in a fun and creative manner.

Each class runs for four consecutive Saturdays during the session.
All classes are for students ages 6-11 years old.

Class 1 - Introduction to Drawing and Painting $45 / $75

Students in this class will learn the basics of drawing and painting. We will improve our artistic skills through exploration of color, line, texture and form using pencils, paints and pastels.
Class 2 - Creating in Three Dimensions $45 / $75
12-1:30pm
Instructor: Chris Truesdell
In this class students are introduced to a variety of building materials. We will use plastercraft, wood and cardboard to explore the ways to build three dimensional works of art.
Class 1 - Plastercraft Sculpture $45 / $75
10-11:30am
Instructor: Chris Truesdell
Students will have fun in this class creating with plastercraft sculpting materials. We will focus on construction skills while making the 3-D sculpture of your choice.
Class 2 - Adventures with Acrylics $45 / $75
12-1:30pm
Instructor: Chris Truesdell
This is a painting class for students who want to explore several different ways to paint with acrylics. We will use sponges, printing plates and other unusual methods to create original artwork.
All workshops are for students ages 6-11 years old.

SPRING 2009 All
workshops are from 2-3 pm on specified Saturday.There are four workshops per session. Each workshop runs for one Saturday during the session.
March 14 - Creative Collage $10 / $12 Collage is a way to create a new picture out of photographs. We will use beautiful wildlife photos to make original artwork. March 21 - Pop-Up Animal Pictures $10 / $12
In this workshop we create a pop-up picture with a big, open mouth! You could make a fire-breathing dragon, a frog, or a funny creature of your choice.
March 28 - Let's Draw! $10 / $12
Come and explore new ways to draw nature scenes, animals or even underwater pictures. You will enjoy learning new ways to draw some of your favorite things. April 4 - Popping Out Paper Wall Art $10 / $12
Students will create a unique wall hanging with posterboard, markers, ribbons and more. Learn how to make a 3-D artwork that pops off the wall!
April 25 - Printmaking $10 / $12
Printmaking is a fun way to create original artworks! We use foam printing plates, paints and paper to learn basic printmaking techniques. May 2 - Construction Paper Collage $10 / $12
In this collage workshop we will create artwork with paper, glue, ribbons and glitter. You will draw, cut and glue a special picture all your own!
May 9 - Springtime Painting Class $10 / $12
Join us for a special painting class inspired by the joys of spring! We will use acrylic paints to celebrate the beauty of this time of year. May 16 - Portrait Drawing $10 / $12
